Six months after the release of their first hard-wearing album and the many shows that followed, Depth Affect are back. On their brand new John Cassettes EP, you'll recall the spirit of Arche-Lymb when listening to the two outtakes (the sparkling Basic Illitch and the crunchy Crispy Breakfast) or to some tracks of Arche-Lymb which have been remixed by various artists.
The incredible D_Rradio (Static Caravan, UK) turned the single Sarah Carbone into a delightful and childish track which now sweetly flirts with the dancefloors. Melodium (Autres Directions In Music, AudioDregs, Disasters By Choice, FR) chose Honey Folky and made its pop essence stand out while mixing it with a powerful rhythm. OffTheSky (Stilll, Autoplate, USA) worked on Blinzeln Blume, Arche-Lymb's ambiant microsymphonie. Under the action of his computer mouse, the track changes into a stabbing lament, on which a female voice is suspended.
Vladgorythmn Suicide metamorphoses when processed by Lena's computer (Quatermass, FR). There, the song meets a minimal techno base which allows its melody to be thinned down : it then becomes hypnotic & smart. Deluge (Thinner, CAN) -a master at minimal tech- goes even further into the world of electronic & repetitive music with Honey Folky. His 'Foney Holky' remix is rich in variations & offers a powerful ascent leading the listener to the brink of a trans-like climax. It makes you want to dance frantically.
Mitchell Akiyama (Intr_Version, SubRosa, CAN) also worked on Honey Folky and provides us with yet another reading of it : sometimes noisy, sometimes complex and sometimes dancing. Rather astonishing. Last but not least, the young Humanleft (Hydrodisko, FR) brings John Cassettes EP to an end by creating a musical summary of Arche-Lymb on the track Guy Mauve. A nice way to conclude the record while allowing us a last glimpse at the breathtaking tracks of the original album.
Second in our series of ep's derived from cd records released on ADIM, John Cassettes EP is given for free, with a smile.
